First Look at the Restored Veterans Memorial Hall

An historic Santa Cruz building is back in action.

It cost $40,000 to build the Santa Cruz Veterans Memorial Hall in 1932 and $2.4 million to refurbish it in 2013, but from the smiles on the faces of veterans in Santa Cruz, it was worth every penny.

Crowds got a first look Wednesday at the hall, which got earthquake retrofitted in less than a year. Over the years it's been the site of meetings, classes, dinners and great concerts (Which was your favorite event? Tell us in the comments.)

It even has a hot website, here. The building was paid for by county bonds spread over the next 25 years. It's been closed because of safety fears since 2010 and work began on it in January.
