Soquel Teen Awaiting Heart Transplant

There is a fund set up to defray medical costs. Here's how to help.

Gavin Jack, a teenager from Soquel, is awaiting a heart transplant at Stanford Hospital and a fundraising effort has started to help his family cover the astronomical medical costs associated with his care.

Gavin's family has deep ties to the local law enforcement community and the Scotts Valley-based Fallen Officer Foundation has been sharing updates on his condition on Facebook. His father is Santa Cruz Sheriff's Deputy Tony Jack. His step father, Terry Parker, is a retired Santa Cruz Sheriff's Chief Deputy.

The Fallen Officer Foundation reported, "His condition worsened & they were looking at an artificial heart to bridge the gap."

Transplant-related expenses are estimated to be $75,000. Friday afternoon, about $12,000 had been donated. Here is a link to help Gavin.
