Week in Review: Macy's Catches Fire, an Independent Bookstore Opens and Rene Advances

Catch up on the last week of news.

If you were out all week, here’s what you missed:

On Monday, Nob Hill Foods announced a technical glitch had caused customers  Debit cards, credit cards, gift cards and EBT cards were all subject to the glitch which occurred Sunday. If you you shopped there last Sunday, make sure you check your bank statement. 

in the upstairs storeroom of Macy’s at the Capitola Mall. As many as 14 fire engines were on the scene at one point, and the store was shut down for several hours.  Capitola Police Chief Mike Card told Capitola-Soquel Patch that the cause of the fire does not appear to be arson. Also on Friday, the  to take over management of the Emergency Department, starting January 1. Dominican Hospital will be one of 100 other hospitals managed by CEP, who plans to do a walk through and suggest changes in order to increase efficiency.

On Saturday, a that started in the kitchen and spread throughout the house. The five people in the house at the time managed to escape the house in time. One male resident and two firemen were treated for injuries and smoke inhalation. 

Also on Saturday,  celebrated its grand opening in the mall. The store, located next to Sears in the old Borders Express location, sells toys, science kits, games, and books for all ages. The store is operated by the same devoted staff that worked during the time it was Borders Express.
