Soquel Girl Competing for Miss Oakland/San Jose Title

Hannah Selden is taking part in the Miss Teen Oakland/San Jose Pageant on Saturday.

This Saturday is a big one for local teen Hannah Selden, who will be competing for the title of 2013 Miss Teen Oakland/San Jose in a pageant at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center.

If she wins, Selden will head for a national competition later this year in Florida, representing central California.

Selden gained entry into the portion of the pageant through a personal interview conducted by the pageant director. While Saturday's competition includes casual wear and formal wear categories, it is really focused on "personality and personal presentation" as the most important aspects, Hannah's mother Jennifer Selden told Patch in an email.

Should scoring for the pageant come down to a tie, the winner is decided by the highest personal interview score, Selden said.

The event (April 6 at 4 p.m.) is open to the public and tickets cost $20.
