Q&A: Santa Claus Talks to Patch
Santa talks to Patch about chimney jumping, his favorite cookie, and why he thinks this year's Christmas is going to be a good one.
You better not pout—Santa Claus is in town. Santa has arrived at the Capitola Mall's Tracking Station, and he's having a jolly good time in Capitola, where he said the people are so nice. Patch caught up with Santa for some quality time, and here is what he had to say:
Capitola-Soquel Patch: How are things looking on the North Pole?
Santa: Very good. I think it’s a lot better this year. I wouldn’t say the spending is going to be a lot higher but I think the spirits are a lot higher this year. A lot of people are very hopeful this year, and hopefully things will pick up a lot.

Patch: What are Mrs. Claus and the reindeer fleet up to?
Santa: They’ve been very busy. Of course the reindeer are getting all rested up, they’ve got a big night ahead of them. And of course Mrs. Claus is busy with her baking and everything. She does that year-round, so that way she keeps up on it. She also tries to keep me off the cookies throughout the year because she gets tired of having me come back with a sugar rush. (Jolly laughter.)

Patch: What’s your favorite kind of cookie?
Santa: Oatmeal Rasin. Surprising, a lot of people think it’s chocolate chip. But Santa doesn’t like chocolate chips with white gloves.
Patch: And you like your glass of milk?
Santa: I like milk... I also like hot chocolate. I also like apple cider. Juices, different types of juices... And of course the carrots or celery for the reindeer is always nice.
Patch: Are you a one percent or a whole milk kinda guy?
Santa: I’m not picky. Usually I try to keep it on the lower side, to try and counteract the cookies, cuz I mean the reindeers stress enough with the sleigh they don’t need a heavy duty Santa.
Patch: What is the most popular Christmas wish?
Santa: The iPhone 4. I’m dead serious. From 3 years up!
Patch: Kids these days, they sure know their technology.
Santa: They certainly know more about it than Santa does! I still stick to my list that’s a handwritten list. I’m not so good with computers, although I am very thankful for getting a GPS device for my sleigh.
Patch: How have children behaved this year, is your “naughty” list very long?
Santa: Well they always say they’re being good, but it’s like I tell ‘em, I say "You’ve still got time between now and Christmas to kiss up, as it’s called." (Jolly laughter). So if you have been bad, you still have time to turn it around and make up for it.
Patch: How is it shimmying down chimneys, are you ready for it?
Santa: They’ve been keeping them a lot cleaner, 'cause a lot of places you can’t burn wood in the fireplaces nowadays. So a lot of the creosostes are out of the chimneys which helps a lot, keeps my suit looking better every year.
Have you been good this year? What do you hope Santa will bring you for Christmas?
