Photos of the Day: Surf and Sand Reality Check

With rent increases, this family could no longer stay in the park and had to pay to have their home demolished.

The story of Surf and Sand Mobile Home Park seems more doomed every day. While the residents of the park have far from given up their fight to keep their homes, as one put it after witnessing the scene in the photos above, it was a "face to face reality check" for everyone living at Surf and Sand.

What you see above is the demolition of a coach that had been in the owner's family for over 30 years. The coach had belonged to Marcella Wainwright, who died two years ago at 103-years-old. She left the home to her grandson and his wife, who now have a baby.

According to park resident Margaret Dixon, when the rent on the home was set to be raised to $2,700 per month, the residents attempted to sign the title over to the park owner and leave. He reportedly would not accept the title, forcing the residents to pay for the demolition of the home.
