Free Food and Fuel-Efficient Cars at Farm to Table Tour Tomorrow

Aptos Farmers Market will host the Toyota Farm to Table Tour tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Feel free to not eat breakfast at home Saturday morning. Eleven chefs at the will do all the cooking for you.

From 8 a.m. until noon, the third annual Toyota Farm to Table Tour will make a stop at Cabrillo College as part of its nationwide sweep.

The purpose of the event, according to an official release, is “to showcase the thriving culinary scene on the Central Coast and celebrate the connection between farmers markets and the communities they serve.”

Eleven of the county’s best culinary masters will be on hand, working with farmers and using their fresh products to create complimentary bite-sized morsels for the public to taste.

“Santa Cruz is a perfect partner for the Farm to Table Tour,” said Chef Jamie Smith, food service director for Santa Cruz City Schools and Market Chef for Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Market. “We have extraordinary chefs, farmers, butchers, bakers and culinary artisans participating in the Aptos Farmers Market, and we are thrilled to have Toyota showcase our community’s commitment to buy fresh, buy local, and conserve resources.”

Smith will be cooking for the public at the event in Tent 1 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Along with the culinary offerings, Toyota will also provide market shoppers with the chance to preview the Prius v, which will hit the market later this year, and test drive the 2011 Prius, the Camry Hybrid and the Highlander Hybrid. All test drivers will be given a John Boos cutting board.

“This tour lets us celebrate our customers’ passion for environmental stewardship and showcase our fuel-efficient, hybrid vehicles,” said Keith Dahl, Toyota National Manager of Engagement Marketing.

While the vehicles will be fun for plenty, the real star of the show is bound to be the food. See the table below for a full schedule of where and when to find your favorite chefs.
