Earthquake Recap: Two Shakes in County, Bigger Tremble Miles South

There were just two small earthquakes in Santa Cruz County this week, but a 4.6 out of the county was felt up and down the coast.

Two earthquakes made waves on the Richter scale in and near Santa Cruz County this week, with the largest measured at a reasonably feel-able 2.1. However, 70 miles south of Capitola that could be felt throughout all of Santa Cruz County.

Generally, earthquakes that fail to break the 2-mark on the scale are difficult to feel far from the epicenter. As of Saturday evening, 17 people reported feeling the 2.1, and 2,835 people reported feeling the 4.6 on the U.S. Geological Survey website, with residents recognizing the quake as far north as Olympia, WA, and as far south as Tijuana, Mexico.
