Earthquake Recap: Two Mini-Shakes in Santa Cruz County

Two small earthquakes were registered in the county this week.

Two small earthquakes shook Santa Cruz County over the last seven days.

The first was 1.2 on the Richter scale on July 10, at 12:42 p.m., with an epicenter 4 miles northeast of Watsonville. The second was a measly 1.1 on Thursday at 11:22 a.m., 12 miles north of Santa Cruz.

The first quake was along the Sargent Fault, and the second was on the San Andreas Fault.

Generally, earthquakes that fail to break the 2-mark on the Richter scale are difficult to feel far from the epicenter. As of Saturday evening, no one reported feeling either earthquake in Santa Cruz County this week on the U.S. Geological Survey website.
