Earthquake Recap: Trio of Rumbles Shake Santa Cruz County

Three earthquakes were recorded over the last seven days.

Three earthquakes made waves on the Richter scale in Santa Cruz County this week, with the largest measured at 2.3.

Tuesday was the most tectonically-active day of the week, with two quakes shaking north-county. The first, a 2.3 at 8:37 a.m., hit six miles north of Boulder Creek. Just 25 minutes later, a second earthquake, a 1.7, was recorded in exactly the same spot just west of the San Andreas Fault.

On Saturday, a third earthquake was recorded nine miles east of Watsonville at 6:37 a.m. It rang in at 2.0 on the Richter scale.

Generally, earthquakes that fail to break the 2-mark on the scale are difficult to feel far from the epicenter. As of Saturday evening, no one reported feeling any of the three earthquakes in Santa Cruz County this week on the U.S. Geological Survey website.
