Two small earthquakes made waves on the Richter scale in and around Santa Cruz County this week, with the largest measured at a feeble 1.5. A magnitude 4.0 an hour and a half north, however, made waves throughout Calfornia.
Generally, earthquakes that fail to break the 2-mark on the scale are difficult to feel far from the epicenter. As of Saturday evening, 18,793 people reported feeling the 4.0 on the U.S. Geological Survey website, including 62 from Santa Cruz, two from Soquel, one from Watsonville, seven from Scotts Valley and one from Capitola. No one reported feeling either of the smaller shakes.
