Before most people had even woke up this morning, participants in the 10th Annual Beach Run-Swim-Run (GnaR-S-R) were already enjoying coffee, breakfast and a whole lot of endorphins after a mile of swimming in the ocean and six miles of running on the beach. The race, more accurately named a run-swim-run-swim-run-swim-run, has the same starting and ending points as the famous Wharf to Wharf run, but brings the course down to sea level and drops a mile of it into the water. Duathletes took off from the south end of the Santa Cruz Wharf at 6 a.m. (during low tide), ran to and swam around the Harbor, ran to Blacks, swam to Santa Maria's, ran to Wind and Sea, swam to Rockview and ran to the finish line just pass Capitola Wharf. Some racers sported wet suits and swim caps while others chose Speedos or more casual swim wear, but by the time they crossed the finish line they all wore the same blissful look of accomplished exhausted.
