New Leaf Community Markets Community Day Raises $5,580 for Second Harvest

A check for $5,580 was presented by New Leaf Community Markets to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County during the food bank’s Holiday Food Drive Kick-Off Luncheon at the Coconut Grove on November 12. The funds were raised on New Leaf Community Day on September 26; 5% of the day's sales at New Leaf stores in Santa Cruz and Capitola were donated. The donation will buy 22,320 healthy meals.

New Leaf is currently collecting donations for the food bank from customers at the cash registers through the holidays; $2,000 was raised in the first week.

Second Harvest Food Bank works to end hunger and malnutrition in our county by educating and involving the community. Through their network of more than 200 agencies and programs and over 3,000 volunteers, the Food Bank distributes over eight million pounds of food annually to poor working families and seniors. Over half of the people they serve are children. (www.thefoodbank.org)
