New Leaf Market Proceeds Going to Flood Relief This Weekend

Five percent of sales on Friday and Saturday will be donated to flood relief efforts.

Anyone who missed last weekend's or who has yet to donate to the cause of flood relief in Capitola Village will get another crack at charity this weekend by simply shopping at , at 1210 41st Ave.

On both Friday and Saturday, the market will donate 5 percent of all proceeds to help businesses and residents affected by the get back on their feet.

“New Leaf was lucky to get through the recent heavy rains relatively unscathed, but as part of the Capitola community, we want to join those efforts being organized in support of those individuals and businesses affected by the recent flooding," said Scott Roseman, New Leaf co-owner. "We encourage folks to load up their carts next Friday and Saturday at the Capitola New Leaf, and we will donate 5 percent of their purchases to this relief effort.”

According to New Leaf's Naomi Dresser, the donated money will go directly to the Capitola Chamber of Commerce, which will then distribute it to businesses and residents in need.

"The money will be going toward materials lost or construction costs, not toward lost wages or payroll," Dresser said.

To qualify for assistance from the Chamber of Commerce, business owners and Village residents must fill out an application on the chamber's website. Click HERE for more information.

Dresser's rough estimate is that New Leaf will donate at least $1,500 from this weekend's sales.

New Leaf will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. both days to take public donations.

The chamber is also taking direct donations by way of the Capitola Village Flood Relief Fund. Checks to the fund should be made out to Capitola Village Flood Relief and should be mailed to the following address:
