Get Out in Capitola-Soquel: Wine with Donuts and an Easter Open House

Wines with unusual pairings, a new business open house and live music at a local market are the offerings for Capitola-Soquel this Easter weekend.

Where/When: 3703 Portola Dr, Santa Cruz (Tri Shop Santa Cruz - The Triathlon Connection, Thursday, 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Why Go: This is the Chamber's regular networking event and it is always fun and  a great opportunity to mix and mingle. In addition to the chance to socialize, there will be raffle prizes, hors d’oeuvres, wines and refreshments!  Those who attend will receive an invitation to a complimentary stand-up paddle demo to be held later in the week.

Why Go: This is definitely a different twist on wine-tasting. Donuts and wine is not your typical combination. And there is more happening this Saturday as well at Poetic Corners.  Show up for a live filming of a reality TV pilot.

Pricing: $5 tasting fee, includes donut & wine pairing

When/Where: Poetic Cellars, 5000 No. Rodeo Gulch, in Soquel and three Los Gatos wineries, , 24060 Summit Rd., MJA Cellars, 24900 Highland Way; and  Loma Prieta Winery, 26985 Loma Prieta Way. Saturday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Why Go:  This is an interesting approach to wine pairing and appropriate to the holiday penchant for jelly beans.  Jelly beans and wine, who would have thought? But it does sound delightful. Here are the pairings: Burrell School: honey & chardonnay: wild blackberry & zinfandel;  MJA Cellars: strawberry jam & pinot noir; chocolate pudding & cabernet; Loma Prieta: crushed pineapple & viognier; raspberry  & pinot noir; mixed berry smoothie & petite sirah;  Poetic Cellars, toasted marshmallow & chardonnay; pomegranate & mourvedre; plum & syrah. 

Pricing: $5 tasting fee, refund with purchase

Where/When:, 1210 41st Ave. Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Why Go: Do your shopping and then stop to listen to some music at the same place. The performer this Thursday night is Carolyn Sills. Carolyn and her group, The Poor Man's Roses, often perform Patsy Cline hits.

Where/When:  4641 Soquel Dr, Soquel, Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Why Go: Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of The Body Shop Fitness Studio and they are celebrating. Stop in and sample some delicious food and drinks and see fitness demos. You can also check out the fitness studio to see if it something that might work for you.
