New Leaf Reception to Celebrate 3 Million Grocery Bags Saved

New Leaf invites the public to a free reception at all New Leaf stores featuring appetizers and treats to celebrate the achievement of an important milestone. Since 1993 when New Leaf Community Markets launched the Envirotoken program which encourages people to reuse grocery bags, 3 million grocery bags have been “saved” (not put in to use), thanks to New Leaf customers. The Envirotoken program has also generated $220,698 which New Leaf has donated to many local organizations working to improve the environment. With the Envirotoken program, each time a customer re-uses a bag, he or she receives a token worth ten cents to drop in one of six boxes for local organizations. All day will be Double Envirotoken Day -- two tokens worth a total of 20 cents will be awarded for every bag reused at check-out, and donated to local groups.  Drop off your extra reusable bags for others who could use them. The reception will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm at all New Leaf stores. For more information, visit www.newleaf.com
