Aptos 'Restaurant: Impossible' Episode Airing May 16

Ristorante Barolo's makeover at the hands of Robert Irvine is set to make its network debut soon.

It's been almost three months since Food Network came to town to help salvage Ristorante Barolo on "Restaurant: Impossible," and finally the episode is ready to air.

Aptos' hour of fame is set for Wednesday, May 16 at 10 p.m.

A viewing party is planned for the Soquel Drive restaurant starting at 5:30 complete with (of course) food, drink and live music.

I love Restaurant Impossible so I'm looking forward to seeing the before and after!

Thanks for the update, Jacob! Looking forward to watching! I'm still curious to hear from readers who have been there since the re-do. Has Ristorante Barolo improved? I'd really like to know what people think before we go - can't afford to pay if it's not so good!

Im going to watch because I did a lot of work there and it looked nice when we were done.

Mary, watch the show, but don't go. We went after the remake. The mozzarella appetizer was not properly prepared, the Caesar salad was just OK and the pasta Bolognese lacked flavor. Robert should spend more time and attention to training the cook and the wait staff. Spend your money at Cafe Sparrow or Bitttersweet Bistro.

Peking, it's a bummer to hear that you didn't like your meal. I would say the onus ultimately lies on the owner and chefs to get it together rather than on Robert Irvine though. He's only got 24 hours in any one place.

Jacob, I completely agree that the owner is responsible and that there is no magic wand that Irvine can wave to make an owner into someone who can create good, tasty food if it didn't already exist. By the way, Irvine has 48 hours.

Actually, your both wrong. I attended the entire recording & Irvine, only spends a various & brief *maybe* solid 15-20 hours -if that- with the wait staff and owners, the rest of the time he is on his telephone & taping or nowhere around... The production is just that - a PRODUCTION... They do renovation that changes the owners attributes to work with as a restaurant atmosphere - they can't drastically change a person's ultimate personality that might lack certain management skills... all that being taken into consideration - Ristorante Barolo at The BayView Hotel's family is grateful as well as honored to be CHOSEN out of the MILLION's of people and restaurant's in the nation... They are positive and trying to move forward with a better atmosphere to work with, and the service may lack at times & maybe the food isn't always to a particular taste bud but we speak for many companies in Santa Cruz when we say "good workers are hard to come by in this town". The main point is it's a motion forward in history in the BayView Hotel and Aptos and we hope our employees try to portray the new sense of perfection & service to be part of the history in the building... as well as the Robert Irvine's motto "Be Kind & SMILE"

I will be watching with great curiosity tonight. I'm from Aptos and had my mother's 80th birthday party at the Ristorante about seven years ago. I wished at the time I had the talent to do a makeover on the hotel dining areas, although the food was wonderful. Over the years of eating there we did experience some minor glitches in the food and service, but overall found it to be a pleasant experience. I don't know if the present owners are the same, but I do I wish them well either way!
