Santa Cruz Sheriff's deputies were called by a woman to the 100 block of Ridgeview Drive in Aptos, where they found a man and woman dead.
Deputies arriving at 4:48 p.m. found a victim outside the house and another inside, according to a press release at 9:46 p.m.
Deputies found a suspect at 8 p.m., James Henderson, 39, described as a transient. An earlier report by KSBW TV said that a woman called police and they thought it was her son who was a suspect.
Neighbors in the hillside part of Aptos were alerted by reverse 9-1-1 phone calls to be on the lookout for Henderson.
He was found nearby, police said, and surrendered after a short struggle with deputies. No one was injured.
The victims' names aren't being released pending notification of next of kin.
