No Hotel for McGregor Property

The city is likely selling part of the property to the Soquel Creek Water District for $100,000.

Capitola received no viable offers for a hotel on long-underused McGregor property and has instead opted to sell a portion of it to the Soquel Creek Water District.

The property has been the center of debate for years. In the past 12 months, some have argued for a dog park, recreational park and skate park, while the city solicited bids from hotel developers, to no avail.

The city has come to an agreement with the Soquel Creek Water District to sell 7,710 square feet of the property, which will then be converted into a pump station, according to official documents

The city is set to make $100,000 on the sale.

At Thursday's meeting of the Capitola City Council, a public hearing will be held to give final clearance to the transaction.

"An escrow account has been opened and with approval of the purchase agreement by both agencies it is anticipated that the transaction will be finalized within 30 days," city documents say.

If you've got something to say about this new use of the property, go to the meeting and be heard — 7 p.m. at city hall. And tell us what you think in the comments.
