The Venetian Hotel

Look for the Mediterranean flavor in Capitola.

As Wharf Road descends to East Cliff Drive in Capitola, you practically run right into The Venetian Hotel. It's a Mediterranean-style building painted in earth tones on the front, but the back is a different story.

Between the Stockton Bridge and the Capitola Pier right along the beach may be some of the most brightly colored buildings in Santa Cruz County.

The back side of the Venetian Hotel is one of the most photographed spots in Capitola, because of its brightly colored beach rental units. Rental units are vividly painted  brilliant blue, teal, pink, magenta, aqua, emerald—you name it!

In the right light, they glow and glow and glow. This shot is a detail of the many brightly colored wall friezes that decorate the building.

I wonder if anyone knows the significance of the pig?
