Soquel's Vacant Lot

The empty lot, a rare commodity in coastal California.

Growing up in California, we always had vacant lots to play in. For young people, those lots served as their first wild places—a place to climb trees, make forts, play catch and get into mischief.

The vacant lot became scarce as the demand for California's lifestyle increased. There is only so much coastline, and folks love to live by the beach.

This is a shot of a vacant lot almost in the middle of Soquel Village. It serves as a stark reminder of Soquel's rich agricultural heritage and pays tribute to the memories we all have of the vacant lot.
