Soquel Alum Takes Home $50K on ABC's 'Wipeout'

Earlier this year, Rodrigo Plaza won the big prize on the network game show.

We missed the boat on this one back in May, but it has now come to our attention, thanks to the good people with the Fund, that a recent graduate won $50K on the ABC competition show, Wipeout, a couple weeks before Memorial Day this year.

Rodrigo Plaza (class of 2010) was one of a large field at the onset of the Spring Wipeout episode (season four, episode nine), but easily advanced from round to round before besting Joey Pierre and Brent Elder for the grand prize.

"I started watching the show when I was about 16 years old," Plaza told The Harvard Crimson. "I would always tell my two younger brothers how I could totally win it, but at that point, I wasn't old enough to even apply yet."

Now a sophomore at Harvard, Plaza said he plans to use his winnings to travel to Europe with his girlfriend.

Plaza's entire episode can be watched in video section to the right. He first appears toward the end of part one.
