Where/When:  203 Esplanade, Capitola (At Main Beach) Saturday, 11:00 a.m.

Why Go: We did mention this already in our Grab & Go Kids' Planner, but kite-flying is NOT just for kids! Plus, it's such a great event and for such a great cause, (Capitola flood relief) that we had to be sure no one missed word of this. The weather is promising, so it is looking like a beautiful day to be out on the beach and see the kites fly, or fly one of your own.  Judging of the kites will take place about 1:30 p.m.

Pricing: Free, donations go to the Capitola Flood Relief Fund.

Where/When: Good Samaritan Hospital, Health to You Auditorium, 2425 Samaritan Drive, San Jose, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Why Go: We know it's a bit of a hike to San Jose (Google tells us 45 minutes) but this is a unique event that just might merit the drive. A day of films that focuses on seniors. These movies emphasize positive aging. Events include presentations from filmakers.

The films to be shown include Close Harmony, an Academy Award-winning documentary about a senior citizen chorus and an elementary school chorus that practices for a combined concert, and Shattering the Myth of Aging, about seniors in their  70s, 80s and 90s who compete in demanding sports at the Senior Olympics. There's much more, too many to list here.

Pricing:  $10, includes box lunch

Where/When:  Film shows at the Del Mar Theater; 1124 Pacifica Ave.; Gala reception is at the Museum of Art and History,  705 Front St.; film at 7:30 p.m., reception follows.

Why Go: How can you not want to be there? See the screening of Prairie Love and then mix and mingle with filmmakers and other film lovers to celebrate the start of the 10th annual Santa Cruz film festival.

Pricing: $16 to $20

Where/When 1007 Lewis Cir, Santa Cruz, Saturdaay and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: In one fell swoop, you can tour the studios of a dozen local artists in the Live Oak and Pleasure Point areas of Santa Cruz. Sample chocolates along the way as well. Instead of brunch and flowers for Mother's Day, you can celebrate the day with art and chocolate. All the participating studios are within an hour of each other.
