Art often defies logic, but when you meet Maia Negre, listen to her story and step into her paintings, everything seems to makes sense.

Maia Negre says her relationship with the ocean was love at first sight. Those who see and collect her work say she “understands the ocean,” and call her art “calming and magical.”

Maia augmented her talent and background in oil painting at the San Jose State University, where she holds a Bachelor of Arts in studio painting as well as a minor in business. Her work has been a collected by art buyers since Maia was very young. At 23 years old, her painting, "Kat and Katie" was featured as the 2006 Women on Waves Longboard Surf Festival poster artwork. Over the last ten years, Maia's paintings have been used as numerous sports events posters, featured in galleries and businesses, and collected by art buyers around the world.

“There is a beautiful lightness in Maia Negre's art,” says Tim Ward, an artist who’s worked with Maia.  “There seems to be a direct flow from spark-of-inspiration to canvas, which is admirable in a fellow artist.”

Be among the first to see Maia Negre's newest pieces. Maia is also being featured during the Oceans of Art show at the Ron Blizter Gallery, opening this Friday, December 2 and running through December.
