Santa Cruz was recently named a World Surfing Reserve by the international Save the Waves Coalition, yet our town is not permitted to legally call itself “Surf City.” That title was trademarked to Huntington Beach in 2004. As a tribute to our rich and diverse surfing culture in this town, The Willing Suspension Armchair Theater presents “Santa Cruz, the REAL Surf City.” Local surfers Carl Churchfield, Patti Sirens, Rocky Snyder, David Thorn, and Steve “Spike” Wong read excerpts from prose and poetry about surfing in Santa Cruz by Thomas Hickenbottom, Daniel Duane, David Thorn, and Devin Murphy, plus a sneak preview from Drew Kampion’s biography of Jack O’Neill, It’s Always Sunny on the Inside.
