Photographs and Words

Photographer and writer Michael Katakis has been photographing and writing about a wide range of cultures and geographic locations for the past twenty-five years. While working as a documentary photographer, Katakis met anthropologist Dr. Kris Hardin who had just returned from Sierra Leone. Thirty years (and a wedding) later, the two have amassed over 3,000 pages of field notes and 20,000 photos from their travels to West Africa, Paris, Greece, Morocco, China, England, Istanbul, and beyond. These have recently been donated to the British Library, which is now the repository for all of their past and future work. They will be discussing their professions, travels, lives, and incredible book Photographs and Words with Rick Kleffel.
