Murder in the Pines (Tin Lantern)
Find out what's happening in Capitola-Soquelwith free, real-time updates from Patch.
Capitola resident Kathryn Gualtieri sets her 1920’s historical mystery in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Recent Mills College graduate Nora Finnegan has been hired as a reporter for the village’s weekly newspaper, an unconventional occupation for a female in those times. Soon Nora finds herself in the midst of a heated controversy between Carmel’s business owners and its 600 permanent residents: a proposed hotel on the beach pits growth activists against Bohemian artists and writers. Two violent murders add to the tension and place Nora’s own life at risk. Murder in the Pines captures the vulnerability of a 1920’s unmarried woman, as well as the essence of a seaside village during its formative years. Leading Kathryn in conversation is Gayle Ortiz, one of the authors of The Jewel Box and owner of Gayle’s Bakery.
