SC County Libraries Kick Off New Year With Free Poetry Workshop

The workshop, held for writers of all backgrounds, begins on Jan. 5.

Have a New Year’s Resolution to unleash your inner creativity?

Santa Cruz County Libraries are here to assist -- for free -- with a series of poetry writing workshops taught by Magdalena Montagne, a local poet and teacher.

A class takes place at the downtown Santa Cruz Branch Library the first Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting on January 5, and running until June 1.

The same class will be held at the Aptos Branch Library on the second Saturday of every month, starting on January 10 and running until June 8. It will last from 1 to 3 p.m.

Montagne has been leading poetry workshops for over ten years, often to students who have never written a poem before.

“I have been discovering my voice in poetry ever since enrolling in Magdalena’s workshop and really, really loving it,” a student in one of her classes wrote. “Magdalena has a welcoming spirit that allows for self-expression, experimentation and artful crafting.”
