Burger King said, in a statement at the time, that introducing the rainbow wrapping for the parade was one way to become involved in the LGBT community, and that all "Proud Whopper" sandwich sales would be donated to scholarships benefiting LGBT high school seniors, according to an article in USA Today.
And Fernando Machado, senior vice president of global brand management at Burger King, even predicted the collectibility of the wrappers.
