Get Out! Rummage Sales, Art Tours and a Benefit Concert for the Big Foot Museum

FRIDAY OCT. 12:

SECOND FRIDAYS ARE FREE

Where: The Museum of Art and History

What: All exhibitions, and Film Screening: Everything which is...Yes, a 60-minute documentary that won an Audience Award for locally produced work at the 2011 Santa Cruz Film Festival.

When: Film screening is from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Cost: Free.

YELAWOLF

Where: At the Catalyst Club in downtown Santa Cruz.

What: Yelawolf with Rittz, Trouble Andrew and DJ Vajra

When: Doors at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.

Cost: $19 adv/$24 door.

BIGFOOT MUSEUM BENEFIT FT. KEPI GHOULIE

Where: The Crepe Place

What: A benefit concert for the Bigfoot Museum in Felton, with Kepi Ghoulie as the main act. Kepi is famous for his stint with the Ghoulies, which he founded in 1983. Pop-influenced garage rock!

When: Friday Oct. 12 at 9 p.m.

Cost: $10

ROBERT WALTER'S 20th CONGRESS

Where: Moe's Alley

What: Renowned keyboardist and composer who has worked as a leader and supporting musician to many of the giants of American jazz and funk music.  Soul-jazz-funk!!! For all of your booty-shaking, love making needs!

When: Tonight! Friday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m.

Cost: $12/adv $15 door.

SATURDAY, OCT. 13:

UCSC ARBORETUM FALL PLANT SALE

Where: At the Eucalyptus Grove on High Street near the intersection of Western Drive.

What: In conjunction with the California Native Plant Society, a sale of beautiful plants from around the world, which happen to thrive here on the central coast.

When: Saturday, Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. 

57th ANNUAL RUMMAGE SALE

Where: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium

What: Omega Nu of Santa Cruz puts on this massive rummage sale at the Civic. There will be clothing, household items, toys, furniture, books, collectibles, and holiday and garden supplies.

When: Saturday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m - 3 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

OPEN STUDIOS ART TOUR

Where: All over North County. (Last weekend was South County, and next weekend will be a county-wide 'Encore Weekend' for those artists with energy to do it again.)

What: Look for the bright green signs all over Santa Cruz, which mark the homes and studios of artists participating in the tour. Meet them, check out their space, talk art, and buy some too! More DETAILS.

When: Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Price: Free.

AUTHOR TALK: DAVY ROTHBART

Where: Bookshop Santa Cruz

When: Saturday, Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m.

What: Davy and Peter Rothbart embark on FOUND Magazine 10th Anniversary Tour which celebrates the release of Davy's book of personal essays, My Heart is an Idiot. "In the vein of David Sedaris and Sloane Crosley, these essays reveal how things that are seemingly so wrong can be so right." -Book Shop Santa Cruz.

FAMILY ART DAY: FAMILY TREES

Where: The Museum of Art and History

What: Part of the Family Art Day series, create a family tree with Esmeralda Rivas of the Women's Crisis Support - Defensa de Mujeres. ALl materials will be provided.

When: Saturday, Oct. 13 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Cost: $5 - $10.

SUNDAY OCT. 14:

EASTSIDE FARMERS MARKET

Where: East Cliff Plaza, between 7th and 17th avenue on Portola.

What: Local food vendors and farmers selling delicious organic produce in an intimate setting. This is a favorite market because of it's intimate feel. They usually have music too!

When: Sundays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

WELCOME BACK MONARCHS DAY

Where: Natural Bridges State Beach

What: A family-friendly annual tradition to welcome back the monarchs. Music, arts and crafts, "monarch" ice cream, and information booths on how to start your own butterfly garden!

When: This Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Cost: Free

BAGUA ZHANG FOR HEALTH

Where: Academy of Martial and Internal Arts

What: Bagua Zhang for Health: The Eight Animals Workshop is a classic and relatively simple introduction to the martial art which is considered the last traditional martial art to emerge from China. It incorporates health, movement and self-defense. 

When: Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
