Get Out in Capitola-Soquel: 59th Annual Begonia Festival is Here!

The holiday weekend tradition highlights a busy Labor Day Weekend in downtown Capitola.

Where/When: Esplanade Park, Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go: There's no better recipe for a summer swan song than some ol' fashioned rock & roll. Rock the final summer twilight concert away with local rockers The Digbeats and take advantage of the last performance of the season.

Where/When: , 401 Old San Jose Rd, Soquel, CA. Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: The Soquel High varsity football teams hits the field for the first time in 2011 this Friday night against Cupertino High. The Knights went 2-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play in 2010. 

Pricing: $8

Where/When: Capitola Village, Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: The festival will feature several events and attractions including a movie night, sand sculpture contest, artist displays, concerts, a nautical parade and much more. There will be a free shuttle running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. as well during all four days of the event. 

Pricing: Free

Where/When: 100 Mariner Way, Aptos, CA. Friday, 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: The Mariners qualified for the Central Coast Section football playoffs in 2010, compiling a 5-4-2 record overall and a 3-1-2 record in SCCAL play en route to the berth. The 2011 season kicks off Friday night at home against visiting Hillsdale High. 

Pricing: $8

Where/When: Esplanade Park, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Bring the family, a picnic dinner, chairs, blankets and let the hosts the provide the popcorn! The movie night at the beach concludes a busy Saturday of events in Capitola Village. 

Pricing: Free

Where/When: Capitola Wharf, Sunday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

Why Go: Sneak a peek at the float contruction process on Saturday and then head out to the water to see the finished products on Sunday. The 58th annual event showcases Begonia covered barges as they float down Soquel Creek to the lagoon. Great views from the Stockton Bridge, Cliff Avenue and Wharf Road.
