Dog Whisperer Visits Land of Medicine Buddha

Paul Owens, AKA the original dog whisperer, will visit Soquel for the first time in 10 years next Wednesday.

Tired of your dog chewing on your shoes or how about the corner of your antique dresser? Or maybe your little pooch barks at everything in sight and won't stay out of the garbage?

Dog training is a must for these rebellious little crotch sniffers, and that's exactly what professional dog trainer and best-selling author, Paul Owens, is coming to Soquel to discuss.

Owens, who will be at the Land of Medicine Buddha in Soquel on Wednesday, will give a presentation on non-violent dog-training techniques, and attendees will have the chance to learn about effective ways to solve behavioral problems in puppies and dogs.

Owens, who is often referred to as the “original” dog whisperer, is the author of The Dog Whisperer, The Puppy Whisperer and The Dog Whisperer Presents Good Habits for Great Dogs, and his work can also be found on DVD. During the seminar, Owen will discuss ways to break undesirable dog behaviors, such as begging, chewing, chasing, house soiling, excessive barking, jumping, running away and even stealing. He'll share his methods— all of which involve resolving bad behaviors in a kind and compassionate way—and will ask attendees to also take a look at their own behaviors, which can inadvertently provoke negative reactions in dogs.

Owens will also discuss the history behind his compassionate dog-training techniques, which he learned through his time of spiritual seeking in India during the '70s.

A raffle with prizes, including a $50 dog-training coupon from BingoDogs, dog treats and a dog exam from Capitola Veterinary Hospital will also take place, with book purchases and autographs happening after the event.
