Talk about enticements to trick or treat in downtown Santa Cruz on Halloween: Mission Hill Creamery and the Cultural Council are offering professional portraits from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Capitola's neighbor's newest ice cream shop at 1101 B Pacific Ave. has enlisted professional photographer Carmina Eliason to shoot framable professional photos of families for the holiday. She is a fine arts photographer and teacher at Mariposa's Art, an arts education program, and she is donating her work.
"It's a donation, so if they can't pay, they don't have to," said owner Dave Kumec. "But the $5 goes to the Cultural Council's arts education programs, so it's a good cause."
Cultural Council director Michelle Williams said the photos and costumes are a celebration of artistic expression in Santa Cruz.
“We love the inventive costumes we see downtown on Halloween; theyʼre a great reminder of the creative spirit that flourishes when nurtured,” she said. “Our arts education programs, SPECTRA and Mariposaʼs Art, help develop that creative spark in our communityʼs kids. Weʼre really pleased Mission Hill Creamery recognizes this, too.”
