REPRESENTATIVE FARR AND STATE LEADERS ENDORSE ZACH FRIEND FOR COUNTY SUPERVISOR

Santa Cruz County Supervisorial candidate Zach Friend today announced the support of Representative Sam Farr, State Senator Joe Simitian, State Assemblymember Bill Monning, and State Assemblymember Luis Alejo.
Announcing his support, Assemblymember Bill Monning said, “I am honored to add my name to the growing list of endorsements in support of Zach Friend’s campaign for Supervisor. I have watched Zach in his role as Chair of the Santa Cruz Democratic Party and as a Crime Analyst for the Santa Cruz Police Department and am confident that he will bring a strong set of credentials, experience, and commitment to the Board of Supervisors.”

Background on Representative Farr, State Senator Simitian, and Assemblymen Monning and Alejo:
Representative Sam Farr serves as a Ranking Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development and Food and Drug Administration. He also sits on the Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. Mr. Farr co-chairs the Congressional Organic Caucus, House Oceans Caucus, and Congressional Travel & Tourism Caucus. He was first elected to the House in 1993.
State Senator Joe Simitian serves in the California State Senate as Chair of the Environmental Quality Committee. He oversees all bills relating to environmental quality, air quality, water quality, integrated waste management, toxics, and hazardous waste. He was first elected to the State Senate in 2004.
State Assemblymember Bill Monning serves in the California State Assembly as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Health. The Assembly Health Committee has primary jurisdiction over health care policy issues such as Medi-Cal, mental health, licensing of health and health-related professionals, and long term healthcare facilities. Mr. Monning was first elected to the Assembly in 2008.
State Assemblymember Luis Alejo serves in the California State Assembly as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Local Government. The Local Government Committee’s primary jurisdictions are special taxes, city and county organization and powers, subdivisions, and administration of special districts. He received his Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of California, Davis, School of Law and was first elected to the Assembly in 2010.
